Those tvs are different from the others. These have space invaders sitting on them so it was probably a different part of the tournament. Regional, nationals, etc. I see now, Bill Heinemen is now Rebecca Heinemen. Hell of a track record as a game programmer. Still haven't heard from her as of yet.

She replies:

"I believe they were RCA Television sets. They acquired them locally for the tournament. However, that photo was of the New York Regional, which I was not a part of.

I was the winner of the LOS ANGELES Regional, and then the New York Nationals (The Nationals only had five contestants)

Yes the chairs are different and the TVs are elevated compared with the other picture. I was able to download the .cbz which contained high-resolution TIFs. They do look like RCAs to me.

There was also a UPI article about the New York regionals (attached). That must go along with the first picture.

Someone I know has a GE VIR 19" that from the back looks very similar. CRT in that set is probably down to air since there is white arcing between most of the gun elements bad enough to trigger the auto off safeties with the CRT socket plugged in...

Here are some Sears TVs from 1983. I know that would be too new but there were probably other models for sale in 1980 with the same cabinet style. These are plastic woodgrain cabinets. The Sanyo-made Sears TV sets with metal cabinets do not match the style in the picture; the corners at the top are not rounded.

I don't know if these plastic-cabinet sets were made by Sanyo or by some other OEM for Sears.

I agree with Eric H that if these were late 70's-1980 GE, they would have the little box with the schematic hanging off the back.
