The Tele-Rio stores in Rio de Janeiro offered color TV sets that operated on both "the Brazilian and Argentinian systems" . With the beggining of color TV in Argentina in 1978 lots of folks from that country crossed the border to buy color TVs in Brazil, where they were cheaper.

Very interesting, it is nice to see that advertisement.

Those prices are in what currency? Were they expensive at the time or were they affordable for most people?

The prices are in Brazilian Cruzeiros, a currency that no longer exists ( the government changed the name of the Brazilian currency from Cruzeiros to Reais in 1994 ). The prices are expensive, color TVs in 1980 were not affordable in Brazil to those below the middle class line, the poor had to satisfy themselves with black and white TVs.

That's pretty much how it was here.

Dindn't color tv sets becamed the standard by 1976-1980, even if they where 19-21" ones?
In Brazil I see that a refrigerator was even more expensive!

At that time in the US typical mid class family had
25" color in living room
13-19" color in adult bed room, often remote.
12" B&W's for the kids rooms.

Consoles were a big status symbol for the poor. The TV could barely
work but a nice cabinet was a must. Lots of used TV sales !
When projection sets came out two types bought them. The very
rich & the very poor. They were the ultimate status symbol BUT the
mid class avoided them.
