Radio Shack RS-16-127 TV - Info?

First post here.

Almost all of my hobbyist repair work has been on tube test equipment and radios. I also have some older (50's vintage) TV's that I plan to work on someday (after I get a little more experience with repairing simpler circuits).

Before getting into "the glow" I dabbled in making my own boards, building little circuits etc. Still do actually.

To the point:

I picked up a little Radio Shack TV 4-1/2" B&W TV recently. It's in near perfect condition inside and out. There are a couple of electrolytic caps that look like they have upchucked their innards and I'm going to replace them before I power it up. I may replace them all. Idk... I'm not sure how long an electrolytic cap will last. I recently replaced four Ecaps in a little Westinghouse H-841P6 and that greatly improved it's ability to receive stations so my thought it that it would be helpful to replace them in the TV. I think the radio is a 1963 vintage. I'm not sure when the little TV was sold. There are a lot of Ecaps in the little TV though. Opinions on this are welcome and will be appreciated.

Does anyone have an idea where I can find a schematic and/or service info for a Model RS 16-127 TV? The CRT is a QPH20-90-NO1A.

No schematic, but you can get a parts list here: http://support.radioshack.com/produc...isions&Reuse=N

.

I found that. In fact that's all I found. Much to my irritation there isn't a single capacitor listed.

Surely someone had to service the tv at some point in it's life

Resistors and capacitors are generic. Just match the values you remove for replacements.

I understand that, but there are a couple dozen Ecaps nestled down in a very small board. I couldn't read any values when I opened it up. A parts list that actually included all of the parts would be nice.

I'll keep looking. I find it hard to believe they would not have a service manual for a TV, even one this small (but it's becoming less hard to believe. This site was the last resort. RS, not surprisingly, didn't respond to me email).

You may have better luck identifying the manufacturer and see if they put out the same item under their own brand name.

True. I had hoped that a search for the picture tube would give me something to go on but it had even fewer hits. I didn't have it opened up for long so I could've missed something.

A ~15$ ESR tester from ebay will help you determine which lytics need to be changed, and could cut down the work.

A lot of those 4.5" sets were sold in the mid 80's under the name "Rhapsody".

I have one of those, a couple of Sencore LZ meters, and a few other cap and inductor testers but if I pull the cap, for no more than they cost, I'll just replace it.

Thank you. I'll do a search and see what comes up

If you get an assortment of standard values, it can save a lot of trouble, and be useful in the future. Something like 1uf - 1000uf, 50V radials. I find most are in the 4.7 - 100uf range, and buying 10 each of standard values is sure easier than tracking down a parts list for every item you repair.

I finally sucked it up, took it apart again. and made a list.

It's posted here in case someone happens along and needs the values. No schematic, just a list of electrolytics. All of the 470µf caps eviscerated themselves.

You might be able to see all of the "cap guts" in this pic.

I don't see any cap guts in the small pic, only what I think may actually be glue.

I'm not sure. I'll dig it out this evening and see if I can find out

There is definitely glue on a some of them but, going off of memory which isn't all that reliable, I think I saw two places were the caps were leaking. I'll double check when I open it up this evening.
