Cheap CRT tester- okay for emissions testing?
 

I'm getting backed up on many TV projects, simply cause I'm waiting to purchase a decent model CRT tester, but can't afford a good one right now...
The decent models are $200+

Was wondering if I could simply buy an older, more generic CRT tester,
strictly for testing the emissions?
I see many in the $20-50 range.

B&K 466, excellent & Durable tester, the rejuve function is a bit harsh but rejuvenation is a waste of time 90% of the time anyway.
The higher number B&K's work fine but have cheap plastic cases that break at the seams.

I have a B & K tester you could have for the cost of shipping. I will look for the model number when I get home. It does work.

Just to spice things up a bit and see some other options I want to recommend an Accurate Instrument Co. Model 257. I'm sure that there are other good models, but mine is this 257 and works great. It is a tube tester with C.R.T. testing capability. I like it's simplicity, small size and light weight (compared to my Hickok units.

Two cables with double ended C.R.T. socket adapters cover most all 50s-60s black and white tubes and the "roundie" color jobs, which to me are all that matter. Then the tube testing capability covers more or less the same range of tubes. Before I found this I had to use my Hickok 6000A to cover some of the newer tubes introduced in the 60s that my old reliable 50s Sylvania doesn't cover. Inversely the Hickok does not handle the old 1920s-30s "big pin" tubes that the Sylvania does. The Accurate certainly is the best of both worlds.

I have never had a B&K, but many people commonly do. Sounds like they are to tube testing what Simpson once was to VOMs. I don't know if Hickok ever made a C.R.T. tester or combo, but I'd bet they did as they were once the professional's choice in test equipment. Super heavy duty stuff, but often expensive.
