1988 Emerson 19" model ECR2100D dead

Set powered on as soon as I plugged in. Started up and showed digital channel display and screen lit up with the usual static. Ran for about 10 seconds and shut off on its own. I then unplugged it and heard a relay. Since then, nothing.

Maybe bad regulator.
I would try on variac maybe 90v in ch b+.
I assume safety circuit shut it down

Alright. Is there a way to test regulator and where's it located?

Normally the regulator is at the mains wiring input, after fuse, diodes and big cap for filtering; then it follows to regulator. It drives an transformer or a inductor (if it is a SMPS; probably due to age of this TV). THe main regulator for sure will have a heatsink.
For testing it, is not advised to isolate them from load; most old SMPS explodes without load.

Look for a 100 k ohm IIRC off the B+ adjust pot.
Would restart but randomly go HVSD. A $1 test !

I was always afraid to put a solid state on variac as I was told it could damage the set. Also my variac is modern one I got off Amazon its not the best but it works.
