1998 Sony KP-53s65 53" Projection Problem
Set runs normal except for some color offset in some areas. Almost like convergeance but not consistant. Uneven in some areas and even mostly in the bottom right corner. Got the idea to block off the blue lens and that corrected it. What could be causing the blue to be offset? Everything else is good. Tried marking and rotating the adjustments on the neck but nothing happens. I did notice slight movement when i passed the magnectic tip of my screwdriver next to it.

Not sure what you mean by "offset" could be convergence and INTERMITTENT convergence problems are VERY common. A set of this age almost DEFINITELY needs convergence IC's assuming it uses them. A few--VERY few Sony sets had discrete amps for convergence...but not many.
But also could be bleeding. Sony sets are NOT known for the best tubes--unlike RCA sets from the same period--which have tubes that seem to last forever..try turning up the blue screen...see if that might make a difference. |
While it does not list your specific model, I think this service bulletin from Sony is germane to your model. Bad solder joints cause problems, and could lead to convergence IC failure, as RCA2000 mentioned.

Yeah, the red and green is perfect. turned up the blue and didn't change. by offset, i meant that it is inconsistantly curvy across the top and pulled downward the left side. pretty good down toward the bottom right. i figured if it were convergeance, then th whole thing would be evenly offset across the entire screen. So i'll need to replace these ics?

This REALLY sounds like a convergence problem !! Mis-shaped raster on a projo on ONE color--is most always a convergence problem. And NO ...convergence problems do NOT often cause an "even offset" _-often it is wavy and weird-looking.

yes you do and use original sanyo ic's not china generics. trust me on this one. good luck steve

The conv board from your other set may be the same.
If not the IC probably are. If you swap boards be sure to resolder all the IC's. Another thing that can go is the voltage that run the IC's. IIRC they use apx -15 & +15 volts. If an IC shorts it will either open a resistor or a little choke coil. More on that if needed............... 73 Zeno:smoke: |
Where would they be located?

Sony marks things well so look on the conv board for the voltages. Start at the harmonica connectors. There may be other voltages coming in like 5V, 9V, 12V to run the rest of the board. If it has resistors they will be abt 1 ohm 1 watt. The coils may look like small white rectangles with wax on the top, at least on the older ones they did. 73 Zeno:smoke: |
What letter would be on the board cause they are all labeled.
|
I was thinking of measuring the voltages IF the IC's dont
fix it. 73 Zeno:smoke: |

OK I get it. Dont remember what the letters were. It will
have 3 big IC's all the same on heat sinks. Maybe someone has a manual ? 73 Zeno:smoke: |

Update: I guess it is the STKs. There's two and they're big. Problem is, the spares i have from the 48" are stk 392 110. Will 110 replace the 150 or no? |
