VGA projectors
 

Anybody know anything about vga projectors?
They'll do composite video as well.
I picked one up at the local free public recycling bin that runs for about 2 minutes then goes into lamp and temp shutdown. Appears to be a fairly new model.
The fan doesn't sound like its up to speed to me.

Have you looked inside to see how dirty it is?

Although I expect the fan would run faster if the filter is clogged.

You didn't mention brand or model but many of the better projectors have more than one fan and usually the only way to know is remove the covers.. If yours falls into that category, one could be binding and slowing down. It won't do its job effectively.

If it is a DLP projector, it could be the color wheel making noise and not a fan.

A lot of these have a lifespan timer for the lamp. So even if the lamp is good, it may shut down simply because it's counted too many hours. Use the two minutes of run time you have to check the menus for anything about that. They usually don't hide it, there should be a reset somewhere.

As for the fan, you should be able to feel it blowing air near the lamp. They will also have air filters for the fans, ensure those are clean.

Thanks. I'll check for that. I took out 4 screws on the bottom and it still didn't want to come apart. Removing the lamp, I can see the fan is not clogged and spins pretty freely. Didn't see an air filter.

There's probably a second fan to cool the screen projecting thingy.
