The joys of moving

My father-in-law passed away last month. He ended up leaving us (My partner, Steve and I) his house. The house is paid for and a newer construction(2006). It is 2,500 sq ft on over an acre of land. It is a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom house with a 3 car attached garage plus a 20 ft by 50 ft 2 story RV garage with a car lift.
The house was "white washed" on the inside, but we have painted the living room, dining room, kitchen, and the master bedroom. We have also removed the tile from the living room and hall way, and installed new carpet there as well as the master bedroom. We have been slowly moving all our stuff to the new house. By the end of this month we will be out of our old house.
We are still going to keep the old house and just rent it out.
It is exciting but not fun moving all those radios, tvs and appliances.

Here are some pictures of the house.

WOW what a place! What town? Looks like something you'd see in Scottsdale....

It is actually in the country but is considered part of Buckeye, AZ.

Steve's dad and brothers and some friends bought this about 12 acre property and put up a block wall with a vehicle gate, around it. They divided the property into 10 lots(each just a bit over an acre). There is a road/driveway in the center with 5 lots on each side. The one brother built a house on the first property on the left, the dad built on the second property on the left, and then a friend built a house on the last property on the left. That's as far as it went. A couple of the other lots were sold off. Steve's dad was the only one who kept the house he had built. He had tried to sell it a couple of times, but couldn't get what he wanted for it.
The house Is located about 35 miles from downtown Phoenix. It is a direct shot down the Interstate. I can see and hear the traffic on the Interstate from the property.

Here is looking down to the last house on the left. Just recently, someone built a 2 stall RV garage on the second to last property on the left.

The tree just after the 5th wheel is on our property line. The lot right our property was also owned by the dad. The three brothers are going to sell it and split the money.

This next picture is looking toward entrance to the complex. Just beyond those two microwave towers is I-10.

Here are a couple pictures of the backyard. We are removing the palm trees, installing an in-ground pool, planting sod/grass and then planting trees around the border of the outer block fence.

This last picture is looking over the backyard block wall. At the edge of that small mountain is I-10.

Beautiful home you have there. Very nice, indeed!

Nice digs!

Nice place. Looks like lots of room for the collection! The granite counter tops in the kitchen look a lot like mine.

I've been in my place for 20 years, and would NOT look forward to moving all of my stuff...particularly the five color combo sets.

I was thinking more along the lines of Beverly Hills.

I would never want a place like that, much too fancy for me.

Very cool.... What is the ground cover ...?

So is that one of those places where they went crazy developing and then the housing
took a dump and you are pretty much living in an unfinished development...? Or just
a house on a great un touched area...?

Looks very peaceful..... Love those kinda homes....

It would take a little getting use to... Right now I got 5 acres of grass to cut
each week..... I guess if I lived there I would be doing more that my measly
1,000 miles on my bike, and maybe triple it with no weekly grass to cut....
Would I take my mower......? I use to do double takes when I would go into
a garage in Atlanta where they moved from NY and see the snow blower in
there all tucked in the corner..... I liked Arizona since I drove through going
to see the west coast light-years ago... I wanna try and convince the wife
to move from here out there somewhere.....

What exactly is that wall for..... Water control....? Wind control...?

.

No idea, but I would expect a guard to pop up with a rifle pointed right at me if I got anywhere near it.

VERY pretty place, but I kinda like my Green Hills....Well, they're sorta yellow & brown now.. This fall hasn't been very pretty.

Yeah, but considering what it's partially surrounding, it looks more like it's meant to keep out those with an annual income of less than seven figures.

That house is beautiful. It has the same style of kitchen cabinets my apartment has; that must be the "in" style this decade. It also looks as if a TV set, probably a projection one, was left behind in one of the rooms. I didn't notice the make (the set looked quite small in the picture), but my best guess would be a high-end Zenith TV.

Your house is located about the same distance from downtown Phoenix as my apartment is from downtown Cleveland. I'm not out in the country here, per se, but compared to the Cleveland suburb I grew up in (population now around 12,000) it sure feels like it. My town (where I live now and have been since almost 15 years ago) has about 3,100 population and dwindling, I swear! I think folks must be moving further east in this county (Lake) or perhaps south, to Geauga County. The latter county is mostly rural, so it may be attractive to folks who are tired of living in the greater Cleveland area and want more space.

When I moved here, it wasn't easy since I brought most of my stuff with me (except furniture and my workshop tools, test gear, etc). I wound up throwing out perhaps 90 percent of the stuff, and wound up getting new furniture as well. It took me all of my first year here just to get settled in my apartment, and another couple of years after that to get used to living in a village. It certainly does take a lot of getting used to, especially after having lived in a good-sized Cleveland suburb as long as I did (most of my life, 43 years at that time; I'm 58 now). But it's been worth it. Such a noticeable difference living in a small town versus a city, but I like it. That's why I moved here; I always wanted to live in a small town, and now that I'm here I intend to stay.
