Pilot tv contrast

Ok I have my pilot tv and it does have a 3kp1 tube in it and while the green is for the birds it's all I have for it. The crt is new but I would like to some how increase the detail in the picture with the contrast, is there a way with these sets to get more black in the picture. The screen should get darker when the contrast, agc knob is turned to the right, max but there is not enough dark level. I have seen other pilots online with the green tube that had lots of dark to it and had more detail because of the black in the pic. The pic does get darker when the knob is rotated but it simply don't have enough. Any ideas would be great. :scratch2:
