LCD Tester...
 

Anyone have one? I'm thinking about getting one - looks to be complete for both large panel and laptop panel use...

I lose faith in a "tester" when they confuse LCD and LED. We aren't talking OLED, we are talking LCD with an LED backlight.

I personally wouldn't trust it if they are confusing terms.

LED or CCFL, the LCD panel is the same. I've done CCFL to LED conversions on many monitors, the latest, a 19" HP with integrated Keyboard/mouse control.

So they are right that it will check LED backlit LCD and CCFL backlit LCD panels...Use the CCFL driver for CCFLs, and the LED CC driver for the LED backlights.

That's not what I'm referring to, they used "LCD/LED". Never did they also say "LCD/CCFL". They are inferring that LCD and LED are different types of panels, it's stupid, and I'm tired of it.

I've worked in manufacturing and repairing of these things, and I hate it when they called them "LED TV's". No they aren't, they are NOT, it's still an LCD.

I refuse to do business with someone who infers LCD and LED TV's are actually different, when it's Apple's to Orange's.

Worked up over semantics? LED/LCD , Like Tube TV for a BPC set? I got over that quickly,,,,,:D

Me, I'll snag one, and I found a competitor that has one as well.

Neat. I might just have to get one. I have a tiny board from a monitor that I kept as a tester for monitors, but it only has the one size panel connector, and only will work for a handful of screens. This would be a nifty tool.

I also kept a small, battery-powered inverter from a portable DVD player that I use to test CCFL tubes. That's handy as heck too.

I see there are some of these testers on ebay too. I might get one there.

I've still got my VGA/SVGA tester from 2000/2001 - 16 different test patterns - got it at Anatek for 70 bucks. I repaired hundreds of monitors and sold used thrift-store monitors to schools systems. In my gold recovery efforts, I've amassed a nice stack of LCD screens, most of which are untested 1280x1024 stuff, but a few 17"ers, tested, could yield some bucks over on eBay....the cost/benefit analysis has me encouraged. I also could rig up a battery pack to test 'em on the go, so it's a win/win...

This on the heels of buying three testers from China just last month. If only there were comparables made in the US....

I went ahead and bought one. Along with one of those chinese "component testers" (tests transistors, ESR, etc) that I have wanted for a while. I figure while I'm buying chinese tech, I might as well go all-out ;)

Nothing is more frustrating than getting an LCD TV, diagnosing it, ordering parts, fixing it, then finding the screen has a crack that you missed, or a dead pixel line or whatever. It will be awesome to have a tester that can power up the screen before I waste time fixing a dud.

Sucks too, I just tossed an older LCD TV because the parts were too expensive and I didn't even know if the panel was any good. With this tester I could have known.

I have high hopes for this tester to revolutionize my LCD repairs, lol.

Those component testers are great units. I did have to repair mine recently, though. The battery is not marvelously well secured in mine and it hit one of the terminals for the back light of the LCD breaking it's pad from the trace....That resulted in no back light, and the CPU operating ONLY when the test button was held...Thus it would only show the start screen....A little lead bridging and it is back in the game...I still need to rebuild my home made case for it though...

I may pop for one, but for now, it does alright.

Welp, I got the transistor tester today and... They sent it in a bubble envelope and the screen is broken. :(

I wrote to the seller, we'll see what they do about it.

Bummer - my transistor tester was in padded foam, and in an ESD bag overwrap, and thrown in a poly bag for shipping, but arrived intact. Two quadracopters from Banggood arrived with the retail boxes taped together and thrown in a poly bag, again no damage, but only by sheer luck - lets hope it doesn't run out soon.
