Philco 370 Chairside
 

I picked this set up from a friend but the top has warpped badly. It has about 3/4" curl along length of the edge. For now I have it in traction clamped to steel angel. Any advise to help straighten it out? pics at:

I have a book on furniture repair that recommends using a hot lamp and wet towels to undo a warp like that. Clamp it to something stiff like some strips of rock maple or other hardwood.

Tnx for your insight I'm a little afraid to use anything wet around the veneer as it could damage it very easily. Also it may delaminate the plys The top veneer is loose arould the edges but the bottom is very loose and wouldn't take much to remove completely. For now I think I'm just going to clamp it down to the steel and see what happens. Looks like I'm making some progress as it just has a bit of bow in the middle. Don't know what it will do when there are no clamps on it.
Was looking to find the values of the BC resistor listed as #40 on the diagram. Philco pn 5125 It's an early Model 70 with 4-#24a tube and no avc.

For veneered plywood, clamps and maybe a bit of steam would be all I'd go for. The advice above is for solid wood.

From nonworking to working.
Last nite I thought I'd take a look at the chaiss and I found a mouse house. Fortunately the little buggers didn't chew all the cloth cover off of the wiring. After cleaning it up bit I jumped in with soldering iron and heat gun in hand to restuff the bakeolite caps. This old girl has had a lot of repair over the years as you can see. After restuffing, rewiring, and checking I was rewarded with a working set. Still has a few minor problem but all in all it play great! Got it working just in time to hear Denver leading the Philies and they pulled it out in the 9th inning.

Does anyone know how the original off/on switch works on this set? The volume control it has doesn't have a switch. I don't think this one is the original. It's a double gang job. One controls the antenna gain and the other controls the IF gain. The diagram shows the switch separate from the pot but that maybe for the table/console models and not the chairside.
