Sears Silvertone 2200 radio

I have posted this at Audiokarma and was told I would get better information here!

Hello everyone, I am restoring a Sears Silvertone model 2200 (maroon color metal cabinet, chassis #528.229).

No "power on" tests have been made yet, just continuity and tube tests (a shorted 3V4 was found).

My plans are to retain battery operation and "forfeit" AC wall power because of the following reasons-

A) The cabinet is ALL metal and COULD become "HOT" due to faulty insulation or component(s).

B) The AC/Battery switch is faulty and will NOT change over to battery operation (it is a fragile looking switch an may be brittle and may not survive a repair attempt).

I found on line on you-tube for a "D" cell" converter power supply that I seem to have most of the parts for.

Any tips or feedback would be appreciated, I have the skills to do this and have a clear schematic from the bottom of the unit I could post here!

Let me know if it belongs in a "better" forum than this one.

You may get some good help here, but as you can see by looking at the number of threads in this forum over the last few months, there isn't much activity here.

Have a look over at the Antique Radio Forums. Much higher participation over there for radios.

Should be a decent player, as it has a tuned rf stage. I usually just wire alkaline 9 volt batteries in series for b+ and AA to D cells for the filament voltages, but the converter sounds interesting.
I would replace all of the paper capacitors and at least check any high meg resistors before applying power.
Yes, please post the schematic.... and welcome aboard.

If you replace the faulty switch, and don't mess up anything, you can have use of wall power OR battery power.

I dunno if you've ever been shocked before, but it's really nothing to be afraid of. And if you're worried about shorting something out, that's what circuit breakers are for.

Also, welcome to videokarma!

Radio "functional".

Performance is is poor under "Initial conditions", time to upgrade old caps and check resistors.

Just got a rare Philco 37-665B repaired with a Zenith 8S154 soon to follow.

How did you power it up? were you able to fix the switch?
I suspect that some alignment might be necessary to peak performance after the set is re-capped.
