I thought I would post this and ask a question after the pictures are posted. This is a little guy I bought with this stack of mint or
sealed records for 5 dollars this AM over in Berkeley. Too bad no box or earphone.

Is there any tricks to power one of these little rascals up if they
have sat for years? I don't think this one was actually ever used.

Hi Carl,

Nice little radio! Looks to be fairly typical of transistor portables of the sixties, but in excellent shape. I notice that it has the Conelrad markings on the tuning dial, which would indicate that it is probably from the very early sixties. Also, the manufacturer's address listed on the inside is pre-zipcode.

I could be wrong, but I don't think you can really do any damage by powering it up, as opposed to an AC powered set. If it doesn't work right off the bat, chances are good that one or more of its several electrolytic caps has gone south, just from the passage of time. Not that hard to replace in a radio like this.

Thanks Paula, I didn't get any info yesterday so I put jumpers
to a 1.5v. yesterday. I figured it couldn't hurt anyway. I'm going out to the garage in a few to see what happens. There was a tube radio that looks like it was used to close to the stove too.
But they said they had a lot of things they would bring out for next weekend including more records "that don't have jackets".
The lady went upstairs and brought down a few, nice shiny 78's!!!

The address on the inside label shows a "zone" rather than a zip code. I can't remember what year zipper-dee-doo-dah's came into effect, but that might help pin it's build date down a bit more.
