Found a vintage Panasonic pencil sharpener

Got this at a thrift today for only $7. Cleaned it up with some Goo-Gone and Novus 1, and it looks and works like brand new. The little light it has is pretty nifty. It lights up when your pencil is sharp. It's kind of redundant, because it's already an auto stop sharpener.

$7? That really looks like a serif 1. Think they got an extra $5 outta you, mate.

Looked like a 7 to me. Never even crossed my mind that it was a 1.

I've paid $2 for ~1940's art deco staplers that are worth more than twice what you paid for that (not to mention, likely to appreciate faster/more, and cooler looking).

The 2 places I've worked had cooler stuff kicking around unappreciated. :smoke:

Still a cool pencil sharpener :3

More like $6.

Go over the Sharpie marks with a dry erase marker and wipe it all away. I doubt it would need any more than two applications.

Oh, didn't notice the first pic. Anyway, keep the dry erase marker trick in mind.

A redundant but still cool light, not unlike Electrolux canister vacuums. Well, not redundant if it lights because there's no bag in it.

If it's sharp those work great, had them at several jobs, and kept my red pencil sharp, for marking up people's designs! Can't say I would want one at home though, too much like brining work into the house!

The Big Lebowski said it best...

Why didn't they mark it like the people younger than I make their 7's, with a slash trough the lower part.
I had to ask my brother what Serif was, or San serif. He's the printer in the family, where I'm the electrician.
I have four of those Panasonics, I still believe in pencils for wood or metal work. :thmbsp:

Because it wasn't a 7, it was a one.

Problem solved.

Hm, even I don't do that, I guess I ought to. Even Hank Yarbo did so when writing in the dirt on his truck and he has a decade on me.

Still a good deal though, compared to those on eBay anyway. Seems this one is model KP-33 or KP-33S.

I don't know a whole lot about typefaces but I do recall Karen Pelly saying one is not supposed to mix Sans serif typefaces (or was it Serif and Sans serif?) and Brent LeRoy saying one can't go wrong with Times New Roman.

I'd be using pencils far more often if I had easy access to good ones. Last time I used a pencil it broke several times while trying to mark a line on a wall for drilling.

InWhen I went to Europe as a teenager, I saw those serif 1's, and 7's with a slash though them for the first time, and thought it's much better than our Canadian numbers. Used them for about six months, then decided it isn't patriotic and went back to "normal" 1 sans serif, and 7 sans slash.

Those 7s are a continental European thing. Like resistors as rectangles instead of squiggles.

Time for a basic math lesson. Or 'maths' as the British would say.

7 - 1.99 = 5.01
Round down = $5
