Sounds like a freebee. Even a round B&W is worth picking up.

Yeah, there's no telling if it's color or not. I thought about that, but we won't know unless someone checks it out. The thread can always be moved.

I sent an e-mail last night and haven't heard back yet. Will let you know what I find out.

Just heard back from the guy. Attached are a few pictures of the Sylvania Color set. He seems to think the model number is 8129, and also informed me that since the picture was taken two of the legs have been broken off.

Yay, I had a feeling!

You gonna snag it?

John Marinello 03-31-2011 11:45 PM

I think I would have them elaborate a bit on the "kit gloves" treatment
that thing underwent to bust two of the legs off. You could ask them if
there was a suspicious "kaboom" or "hissing" sound that eminated from the
cabinet during the treatment in question. Or maybe ask if there's a big
funny spot on the front of the tube that wasn't there when the set had
all of its legs.

I didn't know that Sylvania put out clone sets....Hhmmm CTC12 or 15?

Looks like a CTC15. That was the last year RCA sold chassis to others. Not a clone, but a real RCA.

I hear you John, but at this point, I don't have room for this set. Too many big consoles and combos already hogging what little room I have available. I'm afraid I'll have to pass on this one. Hopefully one of you guys will be able to rescue this old timer.

There have been a couple Sylvania clones on here...doesn't someone have a CTC-5 (or so) clone? I was thinking CTC-12.

I suspect that Sylvania was dragged, or pushed by one person, from where ever it was stored, across that gravel driveway for the photo shoot. Probably lost the legs on the drag back.

Maybe someone can make some arrangements with you, if it's easy for you to get. Even if it's not in the best of shape it may be worth parting. We can't save them all but the CRT's need saved if possible!

Look very closely at the back cover. It's not a Sylvania...

It's a SILVERTONE.

bgadow 04-03-2011 10:03 PM

Good catch! Guess that shows how similiar all the "clones" were. Or that the rest of us just don't pay attention....maybe not quite a desirable as a Sylvania, but not much less.
