B&K 747 tube tester

There's one on my local Craigslist for $150 and they say it works perfect and with the manuals.. I just want to hear some input about this particular model and is it worth it etc.. before I see about getting it.

If it's in clean condition and complete that would be fair. One of the noted problems the 747's have is unstable readings which is a simple fix. There are lamps that are used inside for balance and the sockets can become resistive under test. Some folks say to solder the bulbs directly but I've found that the bayonet side of the lamp holder spins around quite freely so I soldered them to keep from moving...thus making a solid connection and it solves the problem.

On a lessor note, I'd take a couple known good/bad tubes with you and check it's operations.

I use mine as my first "go to" tester but for some reason I have problems checking 6GH8/6KT8/6EA8 type variants accurately in it's dedicated (#6) socket. And sometimes as with most checkers you may come across a less common tube type that just won't check, maybe based on the set ups, however rare.

I might as well forget that one.. I just called the guy and it's been sold.. I'm searching for a good tube tester, but I'm not looking to spend $200-$300 either.. Would anyone recommend a model? This will be my first Tube tester as I'm getting into restoration of old TV sets..

If you don't need to test pre-octal tubes then I'd recommend the B&K Dyna-Jet model 606. I use one as my main go to tester and have done so since I got it over a decade ago when I was first starting to take interest in restoring the radios I had accumulated.

There's not so many sockets on that model, would that be limited to tubes? also is that a solid state model?
