Sparton 1867 Triolian

I found this last week. It is currently at the technician, getting a good once over. It worked when I brought it home, but i didn't want to play it too much until I got it gone through. It's quite a looker.

Nice set! It is not hard to change just the coupling caps in the audio and the lytics...Those are a good bare minimum preventative maintenance for a set that still works well on the original caps.

I found a local guy who is very familiar with these old Spartons. Hopefully i will have it back by the end of the week.

Very nice set! That's one of the top '30's deco consoles. A classic for sure.

The mirrored dial looks great even when the radio is off. It's my first "antique"radio. Now I have the bug.

The goofy black knob is obviously not original. It is being replaced.

Welcome to the hobby then! You're starting off hitting the ground running with that Sparton!
If you're like the rest of us, you'll say "maybe just one more".........over and over again until they take over your place!
Yeah, that knob has to go. It may be a little tough to find a complete original set, but everything turns up on eBay sooner or later if you have the patience. Good luck!

I already found a duplicate band switch knob, so at the least, I can swap the knobs around to make it look better. Maybe put the two band switch knobs on the lower left and lower right, so it will be symmetrical, if not totally correct.

I got it back from being serviced. Recapped, re-tubed, aligned and cleaned up. It's like a new radio. New OLD radio. It sounds even better now, and it was discovered that it has a phono jack. I picked up a stereo mini plug to 1/4 inch mono adapter cable. I can now listen to anything on my computer or phone. It will be fun to listen to some old time radio programs on it. It even makes MP3's sound better. The tone control, while not fancy, does a great job of adding just enough "alto". :)
