Three early radio building concerns in Milwaukee, didn't have any connection with the electrical industry. Nunn-Landon was owned by the Nunn-Bush shoe company. Thorola was owned by the Thora Cigar firm. The Yahr-Lange drug distribution firm made receivers and accessories. Then there was Allen Bradley, Central Radio Lab and Cutler Hammer. |
Wow, a TV made in Pretzel City. I'm sure the huge Philco distributor across town played a role in the demise of Bowers. I do remember as a kid, seeing a Bowers Radio
There were three VHF stations available from Philadelphia and one from Lancaster in 1949. The ad claimed it would be adaptable to UHF (possible) and also C O L O R ? Since this was made in the very town I started collecting, I should really be on the lookout for one. |
The Bowers in the 1951 ads posted mentions an RCA-licensed TC270 chassis.
