STAY THE H3!! AWAY from THIS infernal Magazine, if you know what's GOOD for you.. Its where I learnt about R-389s, EK-07s, R-390s, 390As, 391s, AR-60s, etc.... I wouldn't be flat-Arse BROKE if I'd never found out about it.. Ain't just the Radios, its also ALL the OTHER little Doo-Hickeys you THINK you GOTTA have, if you jump off Fool's Hill over these things...I'm WARNIN' you...(grin)

OK, I appreciate them!

SOMEWHERE in there is an article on the 1935 RCA AR-60, their TOTL radio-It was $495, when a Ford V-8 was $650. The radio in the article is MINE- The guy wrote the article, & then put it on Ebay, & I latched onto it. Supposedly there were 2-300 of 'em made, & there are only 6, or maybe a dozen known survivors.

Do you still have the ER scans available? I am interested.

Once upon a time, I wouldn't have hesitated for a moment to have turned my nose up to ANYTHING that didn't have "R" & "3 XXX in its name, but now I've softened a bit in my dotage. Let's face it, SW basically sounds like @ss most of the time, there's a lot less Englisch programming on every year, & DXing FM signals can be almost as fun, & the audio is WAY better. Look into an SX-42, 43 or 62 from Hallicrafters. You get a receiver that's very nearly as sensitive as the fabled Collins/Motorola R-3(Cough, cough), but along w/a PASSEL of firebottles yr set will get yr local FM purveyor of radio that AIN'T in Swahili/Tagalog/Romulan or Klingon. The 62 DON'T have a BFO, but it DOES have a strong mono FM section, &it was likely styled by Raymond Loewy of postwar Studebaker fame. I don't think they use any bad, oddball tubes, they're big, & servicing them isn't too onerous, what more can you ax for ?!?

Ok try this link.happy reading.

Back last Fall, when I was in the Horsepistol from where I'd fell, broke a couple ribs, likely punctured a lung, there was an ad in "ER" that the editor had an EK-07 4 sale, along w/a set of Englisch manuals-Rare as Hen's Teeth- a CW/USB/LSB adaptor doohickey, & some other odds 'n' ends, for like $500. By the time I got to see the mag, & call him, it was all long gone, he didn't have the name of the guy who bought it, so I couldn't contact him to buy, beg, borrow, steal a copy of the manuals that I so DESPERATELY want/need... Curses !! Foiled AGAIN.... (Grin) I've called Rohde Und Schwarz's offices here in the states, & they basically laughed at me... Such are the vagarities of having an unnatural affectation for obscure foreign exotic electronic equipment... But NONE of y'all would have any ideers about THAT, now would you ?!?
|
Ok for all of you that missed my second posting of the link which got shut down I now have them stored somewhere else.if you want them private message me your email address and I'll send you a link to the magazine's
