Even the manufacturer misnamed it
This is the first time I've seen an under-cabinet item called "under the counter" by its manufacturer (Magnavox-branded, no less):

General Electric had "under the counter" coffee makers....radios...televisions...can openers too.

I had a Philco that appeared to be the same set.

As I recall, all under cabinet mounted devices were under counter. I don't ever recall seeing "under cabinet" on anything. I have a pic of our can opener which would have sounded dumb if it had said "space encabinet":D

Googling either under counter or under cabinet gets all devices, most of which are under cabinet, but some of which are actually under counter. So I guess under counter is just used too frequently to correct.
