I saw something like this about 20 years ago. Not sure if it's exactly the same piece but it was pretty similar. IIRC the TV was one of those 70's RCA B&W sets, 12" screen. The place I saw it was really strange. It was a furniture store with a mix of new and used stuff in some small town in Vermont. The owner had a gigantic collection of beer trays (not for sale, for display only, apparently.) I was living outside of Burlington and going to Glover for Bread And Puppet (Vermont's answer to Burning Man). The store must have looked weird enough for me to stop and check it out on my way back home.

I would not trust having a TV over my head like that .End up getting clobbered with it and they find you dead in bed.
It looks like something Sears or JC Penny would sell like the fridge with a 5 inch color TV in the door. |

Yep, down here in the south they were called "Keen switches". Mama/daddy/grandma/grandpa would send you out to pick one. If you got a wimpy one, it was worse for you! I'm sure RadioTVnut knows all about them too. |
aka the Hickory Switches. And the demand you pick it, and wimpy one made it a heck of a lot worse for ya. Yes, RadioTVNut knows it too well being from the South.

I remember those switches, and I'm only 16 years old! We had/have a peach tree in the backyard, with branches like curtain rods, one quick, jerky snap to get it off, and about 10 on the back of the legs. My twin brother nearly had that tree completely bare, with all of his grade school shenanigans.

The design of those rooms is interesting to someone that did not live in that decade. The author has quite way with words...It has been the most hilarious read about any hotel that I've ever had.:lmao: EDIT: Holey crap that place is probably 20 minutes west of me!....I think I may have even seen the buildings (from outside) back when they stood, on annual trips to the family cabin during my youth! |
