My new CTC-31!

Got this CTC-31 today in a deal I made with a friend and local collector. I had to give up my CTC-15, but I also got another set. This TV really surprised me with an extraordinary picture. No setup needed. In fact, I haven't even taken the back cover off yet, and that's usually the first thing I do! I need to stock up on 6GH8's though.

And no cataract, either!

I'm so nostalgic for that tuner panel! It was 48 years ago this past Wednesday that our parents had us walk to the theatre to see a movie, and we walked back home to see a new CTC-38 (same tuner panel).

I'm watching Frosty The Snowman as I type this. It was new that year, and we watched it in COLOR.

It has a cataract, but you can't see it when it's on. It's a Sylvania replacement from the 70's, and it has a slight green halo.

I watched one of those as a youngster too. Ours was in a metal cabinet and sat on a stand on wheels in our family room. I don't remember it eating 6GH8's. We kept a set of encyclopedia's on top of it, which was a bad idea thinking back.

I cleaned the cabinet with some Gojo today, and boy does it make that beautiful walnut finish come to life. It looks almost brand new, and the picture quality on this set is just phenomenal. Especially for a 6GH8 launcher with two IF stages.

Is that the picture of the actual set?
The set in the picture has the original factory CRT, with the serial tag on it.
BTW, they really weren't that hard on 6GH8's, except in one or two positions.
I had to replace the 6GH8 sockets in one of those.

Good to know this set won't eat 6GH8's. The original tube was taken out about two owners ago, and the Sylvania was put in

Set has already developed an annoying issue with the color. The tint and color strength is all over the place on scene changes, and I'm starting to see these stripes. My CTC-40 did this, but not this bad.

That's a color sync issue. Usually a tube or the crystal 3.5795451 is drifting off a bit.
