need help with SONY model
 

Just ended up with this Sony...no designation on the face, and the previous owner scratched out the model number (maybe for import?).

This has very specific right side controls with linear numbers above the UHF dial, and hope someone out there knows the Model Number. I hate to open it to find chassis numbers.

I THINK its a KV1200. Will have a chassis number inside
usually on the DGS shield. Starts SCC-##.
Its either the 1st or second color Sony sent over.
When ordering manuals on early Sonys you must watch the
serial #'s !! They sold the same model with a different chassis
often.
Have lots of electrolytics ready.......

BTW its rare to find old Sonys with a good CRT. Usually only
the green gun lasts so all you get is a crappy green pix.

Looks like a foreign version of the KV-1220, maybe British. Same model in this video, but no model# provided: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3oeF-sZCyQ&t=61s

I suspect UK model KV 1220 myself. UHF dial looks British. Might be a multi-standard model.

I'll pull the cover when it warms up a bit...it might be foreign since someone went to a lot of trouble to scratch out the model number. Individuals used to scratch out 'Practica' and other certain other brand names, on imported cameras, so they could come through customs.

That's a beauty! IIRC, that will have only one tube (besides the obvious CRT), and it's the HV Rectifier, something on the order of a 3AT2. Great cabinet style, hope the CRT is still ok!

Sony KV-8000 schematic question
 

Hi everyone. I have purchased a Sony KV-8000 on ebay that worked until recently. I have lost luminance. I still have high voltage and have color, but I've lost something in the video channel. I'm wondering if a transistor stage quit or if I have a coupling cap gone bad. Anyway here is my question. There is an ebay listing of the Sony schematic on ebay that I'm pondering on purchasing, but it is listed as "Canadian Model". All the original Sony schematics I have always purchased said "US and Canadian Model". Would there be any difference in this manual compared to the US model? Both countries are NTSC and on 60Hz. I'm wondering if part numbers would be different for components between the 2 countries. Any ideas?? Popester:sigh:

Ian, I forgot I had a photo of my epoxy repair. As you can see I may have been to generous with the amount I used. You can see the metal shield under the epoxy that tied to ground. If you look closely you can see a white color in the middle that would normally be red. This is where my crack in the HV block was. It was arcing directly to that shield. I don't use this set every day but do power it up a couple of times a month. I run it 4-6 hours without any issues.

IIRC early Sony models had different suffixes for where they we sold.
U= US, AU=Australia, CA=Canada etc. They also had the nasty habit
of putting a totally different chassis into the same model. So chassis
& serial numbers become important.
Dark picture is most likely low G-2 ( a.k.a. screen) voltage. Its a simple
voltage divider & control on the CRT socket IIRC. Usually a high ohm
resistor opened. If not that its most likely an open electrolytic coupling cap in the video chain
before the 3 color output transistors.

BTW sorry for the IIRC's. I actually did hard time at Sony factory service in the late 70's but age has not been kind to my memory..........
