KTV 13” color TV - No Remote - Unable To Turn On

I recently acquired a KTV 13" color TV.

Model number KCT 1355.

I did not get a remote with the TV.

How do you turn the TV on? The Main Power button turns the TV on but not the tube.

Do I need a remote to turn the TV completely on?

If so can I use any/universal remote or must a find a remote that came with the TV?

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :)

If the sound comes on then the set is completely on. Either the CRT is bad or the HV and or gun drive voltages are missing or wrong.

A set of that vintage has no collector value. Unless it has sentimental value your time/money is better spent on older sets.

I think the O/P meant that the set doesn't turn on at all!
The power button just turns on the remote receiver. You need a remote to turn on the set, a universal remote should work.
BTW Tom, That set's older than you are! :D

I love these weird off brand sets!

Pushing main power button and then the volume knob should turn the set on.

I know. 1975 is about the end of the collectable era and 1981 is about the end of the compatible CRTs... after that a set has to be really special for me to care.
1980s sets were everywhere when I was a kid and still are not that hard to find or sought after.... may as well collect road gravel.

On Fixya.com, I found the following remote codes for KTV televisions:

Remote codes for KTV with RCA RCR 311S are:
1004, 1035, 1046, 1065, 1068, 1078, 1083, 1123, 1127

One of these codes should work with your TV. Most universal remotes are programmed to operate most (if not all) recent-model TVs, VCRs, DVD players, Roku and other Internet TV devices and, in many cases, audio and stereo gear as well; the code list is generally found at the back of the instruction manual, although in some cases the codes are on a sheet of paper separate from the manual. Simply enter the code for your brand, press the appropriate button on the remote to lock it in, and it should work. You may have to try several codes before you find the correct one. If more than one code operates your TV, use the one that operates all or most of the functions of the set.

Makes sense to me. Main power probably like a kill or vacation switch.
Volume the on/off (push-push ). That vol control has a second function
but we cant see it. May also be behind the tuning door.

It's good to see some appreciation for them. For me, a set's cash "value" is of no importance, what matters is that I like it.

It's alive! :D

Thanks for the help! :beerchug:

The answer was as suggested - push the Main Power button and then push and release the Volume control knob. :thmbsp:

Thanks again for the the help! :ntwrthy:

That's a very cool TV and a I have never heard of brand KTV. A universe remote will work on most old tvs but some old tvs use a two infrared transmitters in the remote control.

Korean brand. I've seen quite a few

My first experience with a KTV set was in 1984, with a 12" set my parents sent me out to buy for my kid sister, at the then unbelievably low price of $39. In a clear case of bait-and-switch, the salesman repeatedly recommended the Magnavox priced at $70, only relenting when I showed him there was only $41 in my wallet.
I quickly observed that it had a superb UHF tuner, making it great for TV tropo DX.

Fast forward about 20 years. I bought a KTV1210 CLR when I rented a vacation cabin at the top of Lake Michigan, $5 at a thrift store in Manistique. Very unusual set -a 12" black-and-white with cable-ready electronic tuner, and no remote. The most curious feature was its cabinet - clear plastic. Only later did I learn that it was purpose-built for the prison population market (#24601 couldn't hide any contraband in a clear TV set). Performance was not as good as my sister's 1984 model.
I left that set up there, but more recently bought another, this one has an inmate number burnt into the top.

I have about five of the prison-vision clear models, Three have the DTV tuners and work like a champ! The are RCA TCE models. One is a green clear Zenith, made by Daewoo.

I once briefly owned a 13" color consumer model KTV. It was a typical knob tuned job. I got rid of it in a move.

This thing reminds me of my Portland (manufactured by Daewoo) set, though I like the looks of this one a little more.

I'm wondering if it's Kmarts brand of a tv. Kind of like Penncrest was for Penneys stereo and tv gear that Penny's sold.
