Zenith 19EC13 4-tube color 19"
 

I found this set a few weeks ago at an estate sale. It was "serviced" some time in the past and most of the screws for the back cover were lost. It appears the original power cord was replaced with one that had too short of a plug to make contact with the back on, so the set was operated with the back partially off and the plug inserted behind the back. Thermistor also appears to have been replaced. I reinstalled a correct cord.

Set had a lot of dust in the HV area, so it saw a far amount of use. Still had the original tubes which tested OK, CRT still tests good. Original tubes are 2 GE, 1 Sylvania and 1 from Japan. The GE damper was originally marked as a 6DQ3 with GE's etched lettering on top. This was obscured and the tube remarked as a 6DT3. A 6DQ3 shows as a substitution for a 6DT3, but not the reverse.

Set has a nice picture, only needed minor adjustments when first powered on. Set was likely unused at least since the end of analog broadcasts. The dial lamp for the VHF tuner is out, and it looks like a process to get at it unless there is a secret.

I don't think I'd go so far to say it's a good looking set, but I really like the knobs.

That's a very nice save. Thanks for taking the time to post all the pics. Its a 1974 model since its a E line. I see yours is the E4003W which was the higher end set. I have the E4001W which was the plain-jane no frills version; non lit knobs and no chromatic button, not even AFC. That's the last color chassis using tubes before Zenith ended tube TV production. They even made a few F-line models for '75 that used this chassis as BOL 19" sets. According to the run number, yours was built the 3rd week of 1974 at the Springfield, MO plant. Glad you were able to fix it up and get it back to proper condition. To replace dial bulbs, I think you have to pull the tuner mounting bracket assembly. The actual Zenith bulb # was a 100-422 which you're welcome to have as I have many NOS ones. That bulb crosses to a TS130 I believe.

The year before that was the biggest selling 19" set.
Went for $400 IIRC. E-line brought the solid state &
that took over. Same list of features D4025W IIRC.
As Doug said the F model was the last 19". That was
a stripped set with an ugly colored cabinet. F4001.
Sold for $300.

Most Zeniths you can easily change the lamps but not
the hybrids. Gotta drop the tuners.

I wish I could get my hands on a nice 4 tube hybrid. Closest I have is a partially stripped rusty chassis from one.

It is interesting how many of them found these days are still in really nice condition like this set is.

I like the cabinet, that's a nice set.

back in the early to mid 80s,i worked in a shop close to downtown.everytime one of these was put out on the sales floor,they went quick.not because of the cabinet but the picture that these delivered.we had several solid state sets of every manufacturer but these zeniths slayed them.whether a stripped down or high end model,these were fine performers,among the best produced in history

My grandparents had a similar Zenith hybrid. It was used daily for years, and the only repair was replacing the vertical output tube and the occasional slap on the side of the cabinet (a cold solder joint caused the color to go out).

I've been looking for one for about 20 years now, and no such luck.

Not unusual to see an original horizontal tube in these either! Good thing as those 6LF6's can get pricey.
