NBC helping ABC w/Color TV in early 1960s
 

I read/heard that NBC provided color transmission facilities for ABC in ~1962 for a year or so until ABC obtained their own color transmission equip.

Is this true?

What do you mean by color "transmission equipment?"

Renting production facilities (studio, or remote trucks)? - Possible
National networking? I believe networking was still the monopoly of AT&T in the early days, but maybe some NBC controlled feeds (?).
Local microwave links? - Possible.

I don't recall much about this situation, but the color programs transmitted by the ABC TV network (maybe just 1962 and 1963) were actually from an NBC facility, the ABC color film programs were taken to an NBC facility and an NBC color film broadcasting system was used to create the color signal which was then sent out on the ABC TV network.

NBC "offered" their color (film) broadcasting facilities to feed the ABC TV network until ABC installed color film broadcasting equipment.

This may be idle speculation and may be wrong, but I'm interested to know if this happened.

Sarnoff offering to help anybody without some sort of monetary gain seems highly unlikely!

Interestingly, ABC used an instrumental version of the ABC color logo during the 62-63 season since many ABC affiliates did not have color transmission capabilities.
