1990 Yorx compact system cd player section doesn't turn on

I usually don't bother with this cheaper stuff but when I found this set in mint condition in original box, my interest was peaked. Looked like it had never been used. Since then, I have used it to play several cassettes but every time I switch mode over to cd, the cd section never lights up. No power to that area and no movement either. What would cause this? I'm guessing it's a flaw from the factory and it probably never worked. Model number 2320.

If it's totally dead, you should be able to trace power from the power supply to the CD player, and figure out where it's not getting through. Could be something shorted and blew a fuse or a resistor, could be a bad connection, could even be a dirty switch. Dig in and have fun.. not much love for this kind of stuff but it sure does bring back memories.

You may have a unit that was returned to a local store for the problem you mentioned, although if you say the unit appears never to have been used, I'm not sure. As you said, it could be a design flaw; however, I am at a complete loss to even hazard a guess as to why the CD player doesn't work. If possible, return the unit to the store from which you purchased it and request a refund. These combo units are very cheaply made and do not last very long, certainly not beyond the manufacturer's warranty period.

This wasn't a store purchase. I found this among many other things during a clean out nearly two years ago. This things 28 years old so I doubt it would matter anyway. The mode switch works for all other functions, cassette, tuner, etc. I have the original remote which is toast. They left the original batteries to leak and the entire remote board is crumbly. Any leads on the cd player, let me know. I have a meter but forget where I put it.:scratch2:

It could be as simple as a plug or ribbon cable popped out of its socket during shipping.

I remember going in it some time back and didn't find anything visible. Won't get off that easy. Would have been nice though.

I don't think I've ever seen a Yorx with a digital tuner.

I have only had one yorx stereo and I did not like it. I believe the cd player is not gitting power and my be simple fix or not. I must say it is very nice looking stereo.

Where is made?
At an non-stop store in my area they have a tower that resembles that one.

Not sure. I tossed this out about a year or so ago. Got tired of messing with it when the cassette decks started acting up.
