I want to see that! One more reason to attend the ETF Convention!

I still find 900# hard to believe.
Maybe we should request the Ohio D.O.T. bring a portable scale to the convention so it can be weighed.

There is NO WAY...one could EVER...get that beast into a pickup truck in ANY way !! And it would take at least SIX MEN...to LIFT it !!

I wonder if the camera was included in the weight.

And what's he doing anyway, checking her pores?

As far as transportation goes, one would hope that the wood cabinetry was not relied upon for protection/support of individual components in transit. The heavier components were probably removed and transported in their own cases/crates, making it easier to handle throughout the move process, and protecting them properly from transport shocks, which is the real potential killer. (Hence, the Ampex engineer required for re-assembly.) High weight + high G-shocks = bad news, every time.

Hopefully the current owners will take a similar approach for their cross-town/country trip. They could, of course, take an approach similar to that of most of the major TV companies of the day: Tack a handle on top and call it a portable.

The $30,000 price tag included a personalized plaque and installation by an Ampex service engineer.

Does it still have its engraved plaque and if so, what's on it?

A warning, though. It is not certain that it will be at the Convention. We are not even sure it will come to the museum.

Hopefully we will see in late April !!

Their consumer products were made in Elk Grove IL for lower production and shipping costs? vs producing/shipping from their Silicon Valley Calif HQ?

Their Pro gear was, of course, easy to work on, but some of their consumer products were a nightmare - I'm thinking of the 950 series hybrid ATRs - you didn't want to have to dismantle one - but you had to - because the rubber belts would melt & stick to the pulleys (they came out with an improved retrofit belt kit for dealers).

Eeek! that looks like a 950 audio tape recorder in there. Not to worry, just leave it in there as they are quite sharp looking in appearance.
