Question regarding a TV at the ETF

Hi there, I was looking through those pictures that oldtvnut took at the EFT Convention, There was this set I spied in a photo, can anyone tell me what make/model that is?

The reason why I'm asking is because one of my black and white TV's made here in NZ under the brand name "Admiral" looks very much like the one in the picture below with the red arrow pointing to it?

I'm curious now about this..... Does anyone have a better front on shot of this or one the same?

Sorry for hi-jacking one of your pics oldtvnut, hope you don't mind! :)

Cheers
Glen

That's a mid sixties color job ? (Rounded avocado tinted escutcheon?)

Yeah. Hard to tell from this angle, but I think its a Roundie of one kind or another...

It's a '66 Philco with tuning eye and "printed finish" cabinet. Missing tube cap on back. He wanted waay too much for it or it would have come home with me.

Is this pretty much what that Philco looks like?

Prolly pretty close...

That is exactly what it looks like.

Well, here is what that Admiral TV of mine looks like, its not exactly the same but very similar styling though also made in the mid 1960's and a smart looking set I reckon

And reading closer on the back this was made here in Wellington under license from the Admiral International Corp USA, how about that :D So is there Admiral set that looks like this one?

I got this for a couple of dollars off a local auction site and have never tried it.

This will be next on my restoration list... I'm finishing off another b/w set at the moment and I will post up here about it :)

Admiral looks like a US chassis ~1960, US metal escutcheon, and custom local power transformer, tuner & cabinet. Admiral had a plant in Australia making TVs based on US knockdowns but pulled out of there after the 1961 [US] recession.

I know exactly what it is, it's a 1965 Philco 21" color set. I was there and John and I discussed it at length. It was missing the back but it was a working Philco. It wasn't a bad looking one either. He'll probably bring it back next year. It was priced cheap too-$100.

I think $100 is too much for a set I know he paid $30 for last year at the convention. Cheap to me is the mint $100 CTC 4 Director 21 that I got last year from a VK member :D. The Philco has a printed finish that is scratched, deal killer. I'm supposed to send him the tube cap for it as I have one, he is sending me some knobs I need in return. I'd be willing to bet it will be back next year like you said. Probably with a few more scratches. That's the way it came back this year.

i remember that set from last year.it was getting beat up as the day longer.i dont begrudge john for trying to make a profit on this.he is in business to make money.asking 100?he take 50-60 for it.like the rca i got from him.he was asking 75 and i got it for 30 and 10 for the ctc 17 rectangular set.that philco is a oddball for sure.relax mark,it will be back next year.

I don't blame him for trying to make a buck either, we gotta do what we gotta do these days. As far as relaxing goes, I'm as cool as a cucumber:D

Buying stuff, hauling it to another jurisdiction and selling it for what you paid for it is not good business, a waste of time and your money too. I'm sure I could have gotten it for much less but I had already bought 3 large color sets to haul back. I considered the CRT itself (21FJP22) worth as much as he was asking for the whole set.

Hi there, hey thanks for that information, I never really looked at the back cover closely until I came to take those pictures. And you're right about the inside layout now that I look at it, very similar to the US chassis. I really like the look of the Admiral and hope to start working on it soon...Watch this space! :)
