19" Samsung color TV from 2000
3 Attachment(s)
This Samsung set is 1 of 4 TVs that were given to me by a church. When initially checked, it worked, but I decided to open it and do some preventative maintenance (ended up resoldering some stuff and replacing a few capacitors).
When I was putting it back together, I did something really stupid by not paying attention to what I was doing, and HV anode lead got caught on the convergence rings, and as I was shoving the board back in the cabinet.....CRACK! The board cracked at the flyback transformer. I started to scrap the set, but I decided to try and fix it. So, I removed the flyback (to make things easier), snapped the board back together as best I could, used epoxy to stabilize it, re-installed the flyback, and ran wires from point A to point B. That got it back working, but I noticed the green looked a tad weak, but not having a remote, I couldn't get in the service menu to adjust anything. As a fluke, I took the Samsung remote for one of the flat screen sets and, much to my surprise, it operated this old CRT set. I was able to adjust it and get it looking a lot better (the picture is before I adjusted it). Now, what to do with it. I really don't care about sets this new, but when someone offers me free TVs, I don't like turning them down because the ones I turn down will be the ones I would have really wanted. Or, if I turn them down, they may later come across something older that I might want, but they won't contact me because I turned down the last ones. |
