Picked up a Sony KV-1221R today

It appears to be from 1981 according to an ad I saw on Google Magazines, though there's no date on it. It was $429 at the time, I paid $15.

CRT is strong and bright but was running a little bit green, also the controls were filthy, you could either have no color or full saturation so I took it apart, adjusted the tracking and De-Ox'd the controls, now it works great!
Cosmetics are good but not perfect, it is 36 years old after all, older than a CT-100 was when this was made.

The only input is the VHF Coax or UHF screws. It's a remote set but I didn't get the remote, and the newer ones won't work with it.

My parents had a similar set growing up, but it was a 15" or 17". The LEDs and method for programming the channel presets is really funky!

Neat little set. I wonder if the stock remote is ultrasonic or infrared.

Yet another example of Sony's oddball but often interesting engineering. I had a KV-1926R whose on-screen channel display went all the way up to 999. Also, channels had to be added or deleted with the original remote.

Infrared, the window is just to the right of the tuner buttons. I read that all Sony’s from 84 on use the same remote codes, but this predates that so I need to find an old remote.

Here we go, the correct remote, model RM-702. They pop up on the bay every now and then. There's one on there right now but the price is pretty ridiculous.

Older than a CT100 RCA? No way, your Sony was made in 1981, The RCA CT100 was from 1954.

He meant it's older than the CT100 was when this set was made. The CT100 would have been 27 years old at the time. I didn't notice that part at first, I see how it could easily be misinterpreted. I edit stuff all the time because I feel it could have been worded better.

Though I had a CTC-101 which I think was made in 1981... :D
