The last Corvette from the museum sinkhole

2001 Z06 Mallett Hammer being brought up out of the sinkhole. By far in the worst shape of the eight. This is the last remaining Corvette that was swallowed up. It was completely covered up upside down with dirt and rocks.

I figured the first in would be in the worst shape.

Good luck with restoring this GM, the original lug nuts are probably still good.

Little red Corvette baby you're much to flat.
Little red Corvette you need to find a museum that's not gonna go splat....

It's in better shape than Miss Belvedere. At least it has structural integrity left.

Another true Corvette treasure would be a 1983 model.

Oh, the museum had that one, and it survived.

Electronic M 04-10-2014 01:06 AM

Did you watch the video? That Corvette is little more than a (damaged)frame and an engine...All the body work crumbled off it when they lifted it.

Miss Belvadere, ignoring all the somewhat random bad rust, is all there and not deformed, mangled, and crushed. Though at the end of the day both may have about the same number of parts that can be reused in a drivable restoration.

Yup, saw the video. The body panels are all fiberglass though, so perhaps something can be done with it... with plenty of skill and creativity.

What a shame. It'll be interesting to see what they do with it.

Here's another picture of it. Not much left to do anything with.

If nobody's at the body shop when they drop it off, they could easily slide it under the door :D

Sheesh, even the VIN tag is probably destroyed.

Which car is this, the 1.5 million one?

They said they will evaluate which ones can be restored and which ones can't, those that can't will go on display at the museum and not be scrapped.

They may be the only cars on display since I can't imagine who would loan a car to that museum after this disaster.

They're going to repair the building but how can they know it won't sink more in the future.
Seems like a reinforced concrete floor would have prevented this.

Dangler 04-10-2014 07:23 PM

This is the 2001 Z06 Mallett Hammer. The 1.5 millionth is probably the second worst condition, it still has some of the body panels but the top is gone.

Eric H 04-10-2014 07:28 PM

"Mallett Hammer" now that is an ironic name considering how it looks.

Re: the 1.5 mil car:

""It would be fairly easy to go find another white 2009 Corvette and take as many parts off that car and put them onto a new structure with the VIN number of this (original) car," Doran said. "You start splitting the line of — did we restore the 1.5 millionth car or did we build an all-new car."

And that's the rub, it would just be another car, not the 1.5 millionth one (not a really significant milestone anyhow IMO). Just display it as-is, it's still the 1.5 millionth Vette, it just has some damage now, that's part of it's history.

Lol, burn. That thing takes low rider to a whole new level... leveled that is.

azbigsam 04-11-2014 06:47 PM

I think they should leave all the cars as-is when pulled from the sinkhole and make an exhibit about what happened.
