Chinese Cabinet Federal Video set

I cut a deal with Harry Poster for this set, and have arranged to have it picked up (thanks Nick!)

Does anyone know for sure if this is just a 630 type chassis modified to drive a 15AP4?

Ugly little thing, but it looked so forlorn on Harry's website... and I like ugly duckling sets.

Just when you thought you'd seen everything . . . .

Very unusual.

The only thing I can find for Federal Video is from Riders Volume 3 which shows an unreadable schematic (for models 209, 309, 409, and ch. 31) and a message at the bottom of the page reading

"For Service Data: See RCA Model 630TS, TV1 Page 1-76".

I've wanted an Oriental cabinet set to watch WWII propaganda cartoons on.

"Tokio Jokio" would look great on the Federal Video set... :stupid:

Hope you don't mind but I took the liberty of testing the CRT, it reads like new and even has that luminous stuff on the neck to tell you when the trap is correctly aligned. I believe it's original since the anode connection is that odd Dumont style button that snaps together, rather than a normal clip connection like I would have expected if it were something like a 16RP4 or whatever.

Thank you Nick! That confirms that it is infact a 15DP4, and not a 15AP4. No ion burn :-)

Might make a nice daily driver.

I seem to recall there were two of those Federal sets on Harry's page, the other one was a darker color I think.

Definitely 630 based as WISCOJIM found in Rider's. The 630 type is my absolute favorite B/W chassis. Only RCA's direct coupled video sets for the 16AP4 and 17 inch tubes were superior in terms of image quality, if not in build quality.

Yes. Now, yer talking. I would suggest "The Purple Heart" (1944) with Dana Andrews and the heartless Richard Loo.:smoke:

Looks more 721TS to me. Just one 5U4 on that chassis, unless one of them is pulled.:smoke:

Anything with Dana Andrews is worth a watch. "The Best Years of Our Lives" is probably the greatest film of all time...

One of the 5U4s isn't visible. Chassis is way too wide to be a 721 clone; that's a 15 inch DuMont tube.

I think there were two, one in a mahogany with the same... interesting... paint job that this set has.

That thread has some pics of the mahagony version. It's hard to tell which is uglier :lmao:
