A friend had the 31" console version of one of those and he paid about $1600 for it, circa 1989. It was trouble from the start and by the mid '90's, the CRT started getting weak and I rejuvenated it. It ran a couple more years and something went wrong with the power supply, that I fixed. By the early 2000's, it started giving vertical problems and the tube started getting weak again. At that point, it became a stand for another set and he eventually gave the TV to me. I rejuvenated the CRT (again), replaced some bad capacitors, and donated it to the starvation army.

I can't imagine $180. He had more than that on it at first. I paid 25 for mine and everything's good except those caps.

Its a Bose set so worth extra. If you have bad caps
in the vert change them FAST. The vert IC has been
disco for years & very hard to find. The vert, HV & power
supply boards should get new 'lytics & be checked
for cold joints. Thats about all that went on them.

I passed on a Bose system 3 like that at a garage sale 4-5 years back, thinking I need to draw the line with my Zenith TV obsession at CCII sets....The more I hear and see of these digital system 3 sets the more I start to want one....

rca2000 12-14-2015 01:49 PM

You could not GIVE me that set !!

pac.attack76 12-15-2015 09:02 AM

I wouldn't trade mine for anything. I especially like the better sound and the Chinese cabinet. I have caps to change but I don't run it. Is there a such thing as a kit or list of caps I'll need or do I just start pulling the obvious ones and replace?

radiotvnut 12-15-2015 05:50 PM

Just open it, take note of the value of capacitors that you need, and replace them. When you replace them, use high temperature types and a decent brand (Nichicon, Panasonic, etc.).

pac.attack76 12-18-2015 09:52 AM

It's not $180 anymore.:D

Haven't these idiots figured out that you can lower the price; but, you can't raise it? When something does not sell, it's often because the price is too high and the price needs to be lowered until the item sells.

pac.attack76 12-19-2015 06:04 PM

Probably thinks he just increased his chances of selling it.:D

What do you mean they can't raise the price?...They can raise it as much as they want, but it only reduces the chance of selling it.
