Distance Between CRTs

Is there a minimum distance that CRTs can not be operated within?

I have two CRTs, a 20-inch TV and 17-inch monitor, in relatively close proximity. I don't have them switched on together, but can escaping magnetic fields from one cause permanent damage in the other?

When I was little, I remember turning on two CRTs close to each other would cause interference.

I remember reading a thread a long time ago about someone who put two CRT monitors next to each other, and one of them (the weaker one I suppose) developed permanent distortion on the side next to the other monitor.

In a word, no.

It's possible that it could cause some r.f. interference, or purity issues on a color set if the stray magnetic field from the speaker or degausser is close enough to affect it, but permanent damage is unlikely.

They used to be displayed in stores in close proximity to one another with no problems.

Sets that used the first RCA in line tubes could cause distortion
on the bench if close to another set & almost back to back.
On the sales floor portables were crowded side to side,
on top of consoles or on a 6 19" display. No effect seen there.
Only effect you may see would be purity but that would go
away with a few cold starts.
In other words not to worry...........
