This set came from a CL listing in Florence, WI. The owner was kind enough to bring it down to Milwaukee for the me and the family to pickup. That was in August. I finally got the set back in its' cabinet a few days ago.

Wow, that really turned out great. Are you going to share with us how you reproduced a blonde finish? :)

I was trying to get close to original finish of limed white oak. I covered the oak veneer with white wash pickling stain ( water based ). Let dry for a minute or so and then wiped the finish with mineral spirits to only let the wood grain depressions retain the white stain. I covered small areas at a time. After I got the white wash to look the way I thought it should, I stained the cabinet the color English Oak ( water base ). The stains are made by Minwax. After a week of drying I sprayed a number of coats of lacquer on. |
Every bit as nice as I'd expect. It's got innards like a DuMont, but DuMont never sold a set with a 10" tube.

Noice.
