Whatever happened to discovision.com?
 

Does anyone know whatever happened to Disco Vision Associates or its web site, discovision.com? It's the company that continued development of the laser disc format after Universal Studios gave up on it, and Pioneer took over. I've read online that the company continued operating as a patent holder for all of the optical multimedia, but other than that, information about the company is scarce online. The company's web site is now gone, and I can't find any recent information online about their business.



I'm just curious about whatever happened to it or its web site, if any one knows.

If the archive.org wayback machine captured the last days of the site perhaps the site had an explanation of its demise before it shutdown.

If I recall, after MCA pulled the funding plug and Philips ran off to go play ball with Sony, Pioneer bought the remains of DiscoVision Associates and held onto it as they kept the format on life support and bought back various patents. I think in the later years it hung around as a shell company which to keep their optical disc division under an alternate name, rather than Pioneer. Beyond that though yes there wasn't much else happening there. Their contact information just forwarded to Pioneer's offices, formerly the DiscoVision Carson plant
