Found a Blue 4" Watchman

I have been collecting Sony flat tube portables for several years and have never seen a 4 inch model in blue before, although I think that I have found most colors.

Recently, a light blue FD42A turned up on the bay, and I was happy to purchase it, for Pippins enjoyment.

Considerable upgrade from the set that he had as a kitten.

I bought a grey 2"version off the rack in front of the store...1st time I ever bought a brand-new TV that WASN'T boxed up in box you could run a truck over. IIRC, the outfit went toes up not long after that...

Now, if you could just find that elusive plaid one! :D

One of my FD-10s that I found on the 'bay arrived in its original peg-hang bubble pack, I remember thinking at the time that it was kinda unusual to see a television set packaged like that... in hindsight, I should have kept the package, but I didn't.

Aside from plaid, which i'm sure was not available :) does anyone here know of any other colors used for the FD 40 series. The box shows a green one, but I have never seen an actual set in green. :scratch2:

Awww, those kitten pictures are adorable! I've got a blue FD-20A, but that's all in the Watchman department. I use it as a serial console with a Raspberry Pi Zero sometimes. If I had a kitty you'd bet it'd be my kitty TV.

I believe I remeber a white one a pink one and a yellow one called a sport watchman with some measure of splash proof covering. I had one of the blue ones. It was a nice set. To bad they are not that usefull today as I was crazy about any miniature tv back then.

Thank you... he is a sweetheart!
Does your blue FD-20 have a sports logo? I have yet to see a plain blue one. :scratch2:

Great set for the cute kitty Jr.Now you have to find a 4 inch red set for your collection .You can set up a red white and blue for forth of July or flag day. That will keep Pippins busy watching all 3 of them.LOL.......

As of now I only have one grey 2 inch set here.

I can do that with FD10As, I have that model in red, white and blue, but the best That I can do with the 4 inch models is pink, white and blue. :D
Are you saying that a red 4 inch model was produced? That would be a great find for my collection!

You know I could be mistaken about the model number. It might be a 10A. My collection isn't accessible where I currently live, it's about 4 hours away, so I can't tell you for sure. It's the right-side up and has a video-input, but I think the display is centered. No radio.

Likely a 20, because the 10s and similar 2s don't have a video input. The screen of the 20A is offset from center, but there is a goofy volume level scale on the right side of the screen that occupies the space. No FM/AM radio on the 20, but the similar looking 30 model has that feature. Two 30s and a 20 can be seen & compared on the left side of the fourth shelf in my display in post one.

Update: Just found a blue 20A on the 'bay and nabbed it!:banana:

Really nice, clean display of your Watchman's. Cute photos of your cats. The blue is a favorite.

The rarest, hard to find Watchman was the FD-200 which sold only in Japan and sold 6 months prior to the introduction of the U.S. model, FD-210. The FD-200 was black and called "Flat TV". I think you already know that these two models had the only true flat CRT. All other Watchman's had a slight curvature.

This is my FD-200

Wow! that is a spectacular find... thanks for posting.:banana:

Actually it is the same cat in both pictures, about 5 years difference. The sable burmese darken considerably and get more silky with age.
