Telefunken tabletop radio: is this OT here?

1 Attachment(s)
Wednesday AM at the town dump was a good morning: besides a couple pieces of fairly pedestrian ss hi-fi equipment, I found a Telefunken tabletop multiband (AM/FM/SW) radio. Model is "Andante". I have always wanted one of those big, '50's/60's German table radios (Grundig, etc.)... if nothing else, the price was right for this one!

I'll try to Variac it over the holiday break. Quick perusal indicates that only the FM band pointer moves; guess there is a slipping or broken dial cord in there somwhere :-( Generally, the set looks pretty good, so I am guardedly optimistic.

Just thought I'd share...

Telefunkens used the dual tuner setup. Its most likely a slipping or broken dial cord like you said.

I've had a few of the small table radios, and they sound remarkably good for their size. I don't know if your model has it, but the "Capri" that I had had a DIN connector for a R2R or other high level device. If you've got the time, they are a fun toy to fix up.

Cool. Telefunken made some nice radios.

New Englanders must be very wealthy. Or perhaps I should say it's amazing what you can find at the dump!

Radio looks great. I love Telefunkens!!!

Here's a pic of a big Tele I used to have:

Oh, man, if I had the space and the bucks, these would become my obsession and collection. I've always loved these radios. Those both look very, very cool. Blaupunkts, Nordemendes, Telefunkens, Grundigs... they're all good!:D

Yah, me too... that's why I was quite psyched to find one at the dump. I hope it's restorable.

Needless to say, my wife is thrilled... ;-)

That would make a great Best Buy brand name - Telefunky.

I've got its Grundig clone, a model 2066 from '59. Very nice radio, I play it about every day.-Sandy G.

There was/is a VERY large & very old EMUD in this antique/junque store in Kingsport; unfortunately, it has several issues-that "glossy" finish these German sets has "alligatored", & I don't know how you'd ever get it looking sharp again. Several of the "piano key" buttons are broken, I'd say they're made of Unobtanium. Those are the cosmetic issues I remember, it's a fair thing to say the old fella would NOT work. Too bad, it looked like it was the "Cock-of-the-Walk" when it was new...-Sandy G.

I've alway wanted one of those cool Euro toys to diplay as prominent 50s piece. I just can' find any in decent shape. Reproducing that gloss mirror finish would have to be done just right to look original.
