Latest Find. Philco 16B
I picked up this Philco 16B today, courtesy of a local radio guy who has an extraordinary collection of antique radios. It's been tastefully refinished, and electronically restored. I had no idea these things were such beasts. It must weigh 50lbs.
Sounds great, and will look great in the living room once I move some things around. https://i.imgur.com/mq3rwHI.jpg?1 https://i.imgur.com/0WQMzLx.jpg?1 https://i.imgur.com/YaFIbnW.jpg?1 https://i.imgur.com/U42hVe5.jpg?1 https://i.imgur.com/gPSaDLJ.jpg?1 Kitty likes country music. https://i.imgur.com/gg8yuyg.jpg?1 |
That's the definition of a nice antique radio, great find!

Wow...someone gave that radio some love. Nice!

Purdymous!

Damn nice set! A good Philco cathedral is on my "must have" list.

When I was there picking up this radio, I was shown a Scott Allwave 23 console, among some other amazing sets. I've never seen one in person. It had like 23 tubes, 7 knobs, and everything in the back was polished to a mirror finish. Pretty amazing radio. I can only imagine how hard it was to find.

Got one of these waiting to be rebuilt..
Wish it came with under chassis pics.. :D SR |
Classic '30's radio. It's amazing how some of the '30's Philco cathedrals look the same in photos yet in person you see how some are small and light and others and surprisingly large and heavy!
Enjoy the set! |
You have an excellent radio. Built to last

I have a '36 116 being redone in the shop. It's reputed to be the best long-distance table model of Philco. The Scott is magnificent! Wide-band hi-fi audio and almost perfect in every way. I wish I had one but I'll settle for the Philco. Just add a good antenna and all the world is yours!

What code is it, 123 or ?. Thought it had the wrong rectifier tube in it, but some runs used an 80 and some a 5Z3. My Calico colored cat has more white than yours. They sure have interesting color combinations. :thmbsp: |

Every time someone posts a particular find, the first thing I do, is look at the schematic on N/A. It makes the posting more interesting. I'd like to have one myself. It's quite a radio. The multi-tube sets are my favorites. |
Has a form of squelch but no no RF amp tube. The later variants eliminated the squelch, added the RF amp and the console went with the 5Z3. My chassis is the 122 variant; yours is the 121. The first is from the console which will go in the later baby grand cabinet of mine. The one for the baby grand cabinet uses the 80 tube.
