Zenith Plastic. J615

I picked this up yesterday. A Zenith J615 table radio. Working perfectly. Great sound for its size, and picks up stations quite well.

AA6 type live chassis. Make sure the power light above the volume control works! A very nice radio. Phono jack in the rear?

Light works. Jack in the rear. I have found out that it is actually an R615.

Yep, the handle gives it away.

You must live in a high-class area. Your finds are in such perfect condition.
I have one just like it, but not in that condition!

So what should a J615 have? The stamp on mine is nearly rubbed off, but I think it says “J615Y”. It is black with no brass trim, no Conelrad markings but it does have a handle that is similar to an expandable watch band. Is it not correct for this model to have a handle?

Most of what I find is dirty and covered with dust. The trick is to enlarge any photos I get and then look "beyond" the dirt. I shy away from many radios I find that have damaged cabinets or rusted chassis.

When I see something in person, I use the dirtiness to my advantage. I make it sound like it will take a lot to make it look good and work properly. Non radio people fall for it every time. :)

Thanks ! My handle is indeed like the upper example, but is black to match the cabinet color.

My handle is correct, but it is likely that someone removed the brass trim on my black 615 before I got it years ago. :tears:

I can't see any evidence that trim was glued on. Whoever removed it did a great job, or perhaps Zenith offered a trim delete version... like say a hotel model or something like that.

My J615 - in white Attachment 198049 has the same handle as WiscoJim's. These DO sound great with good bass, especially considering the atypical speaker "grille"
