1965 Tesla TK-402 image orthicon camera in operation!!!:D

G'day all.

A Czek television camera collector Zdenek has successfully restored a 1965 Tesla TK-402 3" image orthicon camera to good working condition and has recently featured it on his YouTube channel. He has made the video in two parts:
Part 1 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QIs28WPvDo
Part 2 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2cvRPCqe-4

Very interesting looking camera, the design of the enclosure looks loosely based off that of the RCA TK-11/31 and am surprised it was manufactured in 1965 when it looks more 1955. Anyways this camera is making brilliant 1950s style B&W 3" IO pictures and the video demonstration on this camera is fantastic!:D

Enjoy! :D

Cheers
Troy

It's an interesting video, but what is the guy actually saying?

Troy,

Your contributions to bcst history for us to browse through are great for us dinosaurs. But this link is wonderful to all of us that struggled with IO cams. We knew they could do it but seldom got to see it. Thanks to you and Zedenek for the trip through time.

And it's not too late to jump a jet and get to the ETF convention.

That's how you can tell it was manufactured in a Soviet Bloc country. They might have started to assemble it in 1955 but didn't get around to finishing it for ten years...

Very modularized with German components, works nicely. He also shows Plumbicon camera saying the Soviets made them switch to SECAM system but they only converted signal to awful SECAM at transmitter (sneaky of them considering the Soviet cops were monitoring everything)

Kinda winced when I saw the Unobtainium I/O perched on top...If that had been Yrs Trly, I'd have jostled the camera, & the I/O would went "Kee-Rash !" on the floor, knowin' MY luck...

What a splendid recording, I will be watching it several times again. I did think the camera was reminiscent of the PYE (GPL in the USA) Mk3 IO camera, it too had a motorised turret and the viewfinder opened and lifted off just the same. Also the 3 inch IO tube or SuperOrthicon was made by EEV (English Electric Valve), more later
