71 Zenith 12" B&W

… in an unusually colored yellow plastic cabinet with a tube chassis. It gets a good sharp picture, works as found, as you would expect from a Zenith of this era. When I first plugged it in the sync wouldn't lock, but like every other tv I've picked up recently the problem was just down to a dirty tuner. At least with this one the antenna isn't broken! Pics...

I have a set similar to that one

I remember having to replace the vertical integrator module (a 3 legged disc) to get the vertical to work right. Been a while, though. This picture was taken before analog TV died.

They must have made that cabinet style forever. I've seen it in a tube version, solid state / tube hybrid, and solid state / tube hybrid with a circuit board.

The cabinet is probably flame-resistant plastic and was originally white.
I have two Panasonic 9" kitchen color sets, that yellowed rather bad.
The set must be alow hours set, as it has a Clinton CRT and it still is really bright. :scratch2:

Those vertical integrators seem to be a common problem, I've had them go bad on two other Zeniths. Now I keep a stash of 680pf mica caps around just for that.

I think this really is a yellow cabinet, here's a pic which shows it better.

It could easily be a yellow cabinet. In the early 70's, harvest gold was a popular color for the kitchen.

That's about the same color as the cabinet on my Philco Townhouse TV I bought recently... :scratch2:

These are yellow, I have one like it. It's been running strong for me since 1996 lol.

So I cleaned the contacts in the tuner, and it still had the same problem. The sync wouldn't lock in (H or V) until it warmed up a little, then it wouldn't lock in if I changed the channel unless I rotated the tuner around a few times or shook it a little bit. Adjusting the AGC didn't fix it either. Then I swapped out the 4HS8 sync separator tube, and that fixed it. ( I got lucky and had just one new one in my tube stash) Then I tested the old one and it barely moved the needle on my tester... I'll post some more pics after I clean it up some.
