Original B&W 16:9 TV - BPC Category

Hi to All,

I forgot to post pictures of this small "Keenox" BPC TV acquired in march 2011 for a few Euros. What makes it unusual is the 16:9 format of the B&W CRT.

Produced at the lowest price for the now defunct L analogue system, it unfortunately lacks the usual Euro standard CCIR tuner which would allow me to use it with one of my home transmitters. It also lacks A/V inputs, but it wouldn't be difficult to add a video input and turn it into a monitor.

That takes the cake for the wierdest newer SS TV I've ever seen. Were color tubes not cheap enough to make the development of new monochrome tubes a money loseing venture, and if that is an HD set what was the point of HD without color?

That set is a real novelty.

I've been wanting a B&W HDTV set...

That's really neat!

I have a bunch of the little 5" Chinese BPC sets (in different colors) but they are all 4:3, that one looks really weird, I'd like to find one like that.

Do they come in any other colors?

Hello Gentlemen,

Thanks! for the replies, wow! that did trigger some interest.

The TV is not HD, just standard analogue Euro 625/50i. The 16:9 CRT was probably a gimmick to re-trigger sales of cheap Chinese B&W sets once everybody had purchased a 4:3 BPC US $19.95 TV.

They are not too hard to find; Eric if you want one, i can keep on the lookout on E-bay France, Germany, and our local version of Craig's List called "Le Bon Coin" (the good corner):

http://www.leboncoin.fr/

If you want to have a go at searching yourself, use category "Image & Son" (picture and sound) and enter a search keyword such as "Mini TV". Be sure to search the entire country as the search engine is primarely geared to local/regional merchandise, just like Craig's List.

None today, but tomorrow is another day...

I will take better pictures of mine this weekend. If courageous, will open up & photograph the inner works. The CRT P/N is surely interesting.

To my knowledge, i've only seen it in silver livery, but what do i know...

I picked one of those small BW sets at the GW for a couple of dollars. It has a Euro type antenna connector, which I thought was a little strange. Also the audio is a little off, so chances are it's a CCIR set.

This looks quite small...what is the approximate CRT screen size?

That is really unique, a 16:9 black-and-white CRT. Thank you for posting the details and pictures.

Hi to All,

Eric H: i found two 16:9 B&W TVs on Leboncoin this morning; the first one is a Keenox like mine, the second one, i had not seen before:

http://www.leboncoin.fr/image_son/179525706.htm?ca=12_s

http://www.leboncoin.fr/image_son/175160867.htm?ca=12_s

If you want to buy either of these and prefer not wading through French, i can help. If shipping is involved, i would need your address + Mail via PM. It would also be smarter to ask the seller to ship directly to your location rather than transit through Paris where i live.

Hi to all,

Well 13 years later! guy comes up with the same Keenox 7" 16:9 B&W TV on a french forum.
Asked him for photos of the CRT model # labelling, & here they are.

CRT type ID: QPH2090-N801 - 7", 16:9, B&W, P4 phosphor, manufactured May 2006

Second label in red (i guess) is the TV OEM manufacturer: Weifeng

TV is a later model vs the one described in 2011 as it has RCA A/V inputs.
