I don't have it yet, but will try to get it, it's a bit far away however, about 100 miles. :(

This is a WEIRD one, been looking at the SAMS for a while, trying to make sense of it, not easy, it seems to be a hodge podge several makers, quite a bit of it is reminiscent of the Motorola_ts-907, including the use of 6HS8 for AGC , and dual horizontal outputs. :O
Color demod/amp is NOT RCA, it seems, using a compact tube 6LE8.

The CRT it seems is of the same type as used in my Hoffman Colorcaster, 23EGP22 (25SP22) (25GP22) (25AP22A) state of tube, unknown.

Hopefully I can get this one, and it looks to be a weird one!

I believe that's a remote set. Looks like the transmitter "hanger" in front of the speaker grille, also, the "S" in the model number may stand for "Sonar", Admirals name for their remote systems.

It's probably a G13 chassis. If it doesn't use a HV regulator, it was hard on flybacks. When replacing the flyback, Admiral recommended using one 6DK6 instead of the two 6JM6's.
If it has a 6BK4, it's a H12, which is doubtful!
IDK where they got that 6LE8 color demod circuit from. Many firms used it, not just Motorola. :scratch2:

Correct, the schematic shows no shunt regulator circuit, they seem to be going about it in an odd way, using pulses from a separate winding on the FBT via a diode and pot to try and tamp down the signal on the grid of the horizontal output, not very effective I would think, that diode will degrade over time being hit with those horizontal pulses.

If its still got 2 HO tubes the FBT is original. The G13 & H12
had a massive FBT kit with tons of mods. If you knew one was in
line to do you called in sick & stayed home sucking down
Schlitz !
BTW if it has a 6EW6 vid amp change it ever few yrs. They get
weak & the details get lost, looks cartoonish. A fresh one brings
back things like hair, freckles etc.

It reminds me of that lousy Magnavox hybrid 19" portable. The flyback kit came with a whole mess of components. It was like you had to re-engineer the entire set, change the HV rectifier to a trippler and change resistors and install diodes in some of the other circuits. Then people couldn't understand why I hated Magnavox products! :nono:

How on earth did RCA, etc get away with one horz output, but others needed two?

They ran the single tube with minimal 'headroom'. Like if the cathode current was running 220 ma instead of 210, the difference could shorten longevity bigly.

OK..
Awful news
It's already gone.
I was chatting with the owner last night, and it seems he did not know it was already sold. :(

"I have it in a little thrift store at that address and I reached out her this morning and she sold it last night.. Sorry."

SUCKS

Wasted $22 on a SAMS :/

good news (i hope) found another set in the same area.

Yikes. I had something similar happen last year. I found a nice Motorola 23EGP22 set on Facebook marketplace (I really want and have been searching several years a first gen rectangular set both for history and to know how bad they really are) and they tell me too late we turned it over to an estate sale company. I contacted the company and worked out a deal and those utter morons sold it much cheaper to fellow collector Paul Abernathy because they "thought he was me". Took me a while to get over the frustration of a let down like that at the end of over a month of chasing it.

I have never seen a stand alone TV console from Magnavox that new in that form factor that wasn't a combo. That thing has to be a rare cabinet.

BTW I have a almost complete Sam's library (up to ~1979) if you want a some phone pics or maybe a small format scan of something to see if it's interesting you can message me before buying it from scam's technical publishing...

Also, I have much of the tuner subchassis from a similar set. (When I found it , it had an 80s LED channel readout Zenith System 3 where the CRT and main chassis used to be so I took the only tube stuff left)

Yamamaya42 05-03-2023 07:21 AM

The worst thing about it is, whoever DID get it will most likely commit “The Ultimate Sin” with it, and I don't mean Ozzy's 4th album! :(

zeno 05-03-2023 09:37 AM

Wow thats one odd ball Maggy. Probably is an RCA jug.

I did 2 of them. The whole set was a DOG. I hated them. Glad they didnt build many of them !

The cabinet is definitely ornate, that's for sure. And the layout is odd as well, with low chassis under the CRT, and tuner way above, perhaps on a sub-chassis.
Seller had it listed as TV/ Radio combo, but can see no sign of a radio in the pics, will know for sure when I see it.

Yamamaya42 05-03-2023 02:18 PM

Bit more info.
Been trying to find something about the set.

Found...
Thank you for the inquiry. Color unit built 1963-1964 in Plant #2, Greeneville, TN. Apparently it was not a popular seller.
Hope this helps.
Best Regards,
