Dominion Electrohome Model 650
This was spotted on the shelves of Value Village for a price I couldn't believe.
$30. Woah, was someone not price checking ebay that day? Not like them to be honest on the price. :thmbsp:

Pretty beat up unit. The cabinet is heavily scratched and gouged, all the wiring has rotted, inside are signs of repeated poor quality repairs with lots of cold joints. A partial diagram was found stuffed underneath the chassis.

RadioMuseum has a page on it here and dates it to around 1936/1937 however the pictures do not match the cabinet or the chassis so I suspect the schematic is not correct either. Tubes are too old for me to test as well. Not sure where to get some of these really weird cap values. (500v 8uf) :scratch2:

Use two 22uf 350V in series to replace 8uf 500V. The voltage rating needs to be that high because of the field coil being used as a choke. Nice radio! Electrohome stuff is nothing if not solid!

I use resistors around 330K across each cap, to enforce a reasonably even split of voltage across each cap. The resistors also help drain off charge after the power is turned off.

Any opinions on saving that 6D6? The wire is snapped off clean at the glass.

If you can, try chipping away a tiny bit of glass to expose just enough metal to solder to. Use really fine wire to extend it. Once you have the top glued/soldered on you may want to bend the connector open a pinch so it grabs, but gently enough that you won't have to worry about it pulling the top cap off.
