No idea why they do what they did, that's most likely lost in the RCA engineering archives someplace, but they must have had some reason for it, but I've had very good results replacing those 2 resistors mentioned, especially the 66m one, I have seen it drift as high as 74-75m, yes I DO have one multimeter that can measure up to 100 meg ohms, I got it just to test these resistors. :O
