The power button just turns on the remote receiver. You need a remote to turn on the set, a universal remote should work.

I know. 1975 is about the end of the collectable era and 1981 is about the end of the compatible CRTs... after that a set has to be really special for me to care.
1980s sets were everywhere when I was a kid and still are not that hard to find or sought after.... may as well collect road gravel.
