Well, I've begun working on the cabinet, stripping the damaged veneer and finally stripping the finish. The local wood store had a roll of walnut veneer that matches the original grain quite nicely and will be stained to match.

It's interesting, a few others who have done restorations on these units note that the veneer cracked on the doors in the exact same place. Not on the body, but on the doors at the top of the cabinet.

I've been debating how to refinish the cabinet, shellac was original, but doesn't hold up as well as some more modern finishes. Not to mention, shellac dissolves with alcohol. (Great for a bar right?)
