My New CTC-15

Sam decided he really didn't have room for the CTC-15 he picked up on CL a couple of weeks ago, so I arranged to go pick it up this morning.

The RCA Hi-Lite picture tube was installed in October 1970, and checks like new on my tester. I was able to clean up most of the cabinet finish issues that Sam talked about by using some GoJo and some 0000 steel wool, and doing a "wet-sand" clean up to get the cloth fibers out of the finish. I still need to do some more work to fix the corner where the original finish came off, but I'm pretty sure the cabinet won't need to be refinished. For a first-pass, I think the cabinet cleaned up pretty good.

Brought the set up on a variac and got audio and raster, so I hooked up a VCR to see what kind of a picture I would get. The horizontal and vertical hold are very touchy, and I'm not getting chroma, but it's a good start for an unrestored set. This one is definitely a keeper (just like all my other ones)

So now I'm the one looking for a control panel cover..........
